First meeting of the United States-Uruguay Council on Trade and Investment
On April 26, the first meeting of the Council created by the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) was held in Washington DC. John K Veroneau, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, headed the United States delegation, and Dr. Gonzalo Fernández, Presidency Secretary, headed the Uruguayan envoy.

On January 25, 2007 a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) was signed between Uruguay and the United States in Montevideo.

of Economy and Finance Danilo Astori and Secretary of the Presidency
Gonzalo Fernandez visit Washington, DC.
A busy schedule in Washington, DC. Minister
of Economy and Finance, Danilo Astori, and Secretary of the Presidency,
Gonzalo Fernandez visited Washington, DC this November, in order to
maintain, together with Ambassador Carlos Gianelli, a number of meetings
with World BankDirectors to advocate for a
investment project approval that will create 2500 jobs in Uruguay. The
project was successfully approved the following week, November 21st,
2006.
"The boards of directors of the International Finance Corporation and
the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency today approved a $170
million investment by IFC and a guarantee of up to $350 million from
MIGA for the Orion pulp mill project in Uruguay. The two organizations,
after completing a thorough review of the facts, are convinced that the
mill will generate significant economic benefits for Uruguay and cause
no environmental harm... "

Uruguay
- United States Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT).
The bilateral treaty between Uruguay and
the United States of America concerning the Encouragement and Reciprocal
Protection of Investment (BIT), will enter into force on November 1st,
2006.
It was signed at the Summit of the
Americas, in Mar del Plata, Argentina, on November 4th, 2005.
Recently both Governments completed their internal sanction
procedures and during the VIº Meeting of the Joint Commission on Trade
and Investment (Montevideo, October 2 & 3, 2006) the instruments of
ratification were exchanged.

Mythical Scenographies brings together work by Uruguyan artists Lizzy Magariños, Gustavo Genta, Rogelio Osorio and Roberto Piriz. Her artistic ability communicates what the human experience is made of, regardless of race, origin, sex, age or social status. El Consulado General del Uruguay en Washington desea llevar a conocimiento de los ciudadanos uruguayos que se encuentren en el área, que el próximo 1 de abril se realizará el censo 2010, organizado por la Oficina Nacional del Censo de este país.
El objeto del mismo es contar las personas que tienen residencia permanente en el territorio de los Estados Unidos de América quedando excluidas todas aquellas personas que se encuentran en el país por turismo o en situación de transito (no residencia).

Los requisitos que deben tener en cuenta los ciudadanos uruguayos que deseen visitar la Casa Blanca son los siguientes:
las personas interesadas deben componer un grupo de diez personas como mínimo
este grupo debe ir acompañado por el Señor Embajador o el Ministro de la Embajada
la visita se puede realizar entre los días martes a sábado por la mañana
la solicitud se tiene que realizar con 3 semanas de aviso, adjuntando copia de pasaportes, etc.
Ronda de promoción de inversiones en Dallas y Atlanta 7-11 diciembre.
La Embajada de Uruguay en EE.UU. acompañó al Instituto de Promoción de Inversiones y Exportaciones de Bienes y Servicios, URUGUAY XXI a las ciudades de Dallas y Atlanta para promover al Uruguay y en particular las inversiones extranjeras, presentando al país como plataforma para la localización de servicios globales.
El 1º de diciembre, Uruguay XXI estrenó nueva sede en el Edificio "Uruguay Fomenta", sumándose a un importante grupo de entidades públicas y privadas que ofrecen servicios de soporte y desarrollo a las empresas uruguayas. Desde allí, continuaremos trabajando para internacionalizar la economía uruguaya, promoviendo el crecimiento de las exportaciones y posicionando a nuestro país como destino estratégico para las inversiones productivas.
The Uruguayan Ministry of Industry, Energy and Minery launched the "Uruguay
Round 2009", in order to promote the exploration of hydrocarbons in the
Uruguayan off shore, and interest companies to present offers for
exploitation, exploration in the Punta del Este and Pelotas Basins.
This process involves many activities and its formal announcement will take
place at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel, located in Montevideo, Uruguay
during 1-3 December, 2008.

Exploración de hidrocarburos en Uruguay
El Ministerio de Industria, Energia y Mineria ha lanzado la "Ronda Uruguay
2009", proceso que busca promover la exploracion de hidrocarburos en el off
shore de Uruguay, con el objetivo de atraer empresas calificadas y lograr
ofertas para la exploracion y explotacion de las cuencas Punta del Este y
Pelotas.
Este proceso involucra varias actividades de promocion. Su lanzamiento
formal se realizara del 1 al 3 de diciembre de este ano en el Radisson
Victoria Plaza Hotel, Montevideo-Uruguay.

President Vázquez said that in 2007 the Government will allocate to Public Health, Infrastructure and Security an increase of $109 millions, in comparison to 2006, but with an additional of $65 millions. He added that Uruguay will work for a greater commercial opening and to outperform its economics goals.

From February 4 to 9, 2007, Quebec was the host of the greatest international wine Competition in North America: the 14th edition of Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada (SMV). More than 1708 wines coming from 28 countries were tasted and judged by an eminent international jury of world tasters. Indeed, 59 judges coming from 19 countries gathered to carry out the selection of the best wines in competition.
